No. Boston Dynamics is owned by Hyundai Motor Group, which bought an 80% stake from SoftBank in June 2021. In July 2026 Hyundai said its shareholders are pursuing SoftBank's remaining stake.
Boston Dynamics builds mobile robots. Its website lists four products: Spot, Stretch, Atlas and the Orbit software platform. The company says it was founded in 1992 by Marc Raibert, who came from MIT's Leg Lab.
Spot is used for inspection. Boston Dynamics names manufacturing predictive maintenance and facility monitoring, inspection of hazardous energy sites, and construction progress documentation as uses.
Stretch is used in warehouses for two jobs: unloading trailers and containers, and picking cases during order fulfillment. Boston Dynamics says Stretch can move hundreds of cases an hour and lists Otto Group, NFI, Gap Inc., Arvato, DHL, Maersk and H&M as customers.
Atlas is at an early stage. Boston Dynamics says it is starting with a select number of early adopters and names Hyundai as doing field testing on sequencing tasks. Hyundai said on Jul 16, 2026 it aims to deploy Atlas at its Metaplant America facility beginning in 2028.
